Fellowship Program

About

The Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation awards fellowship grants annually to outstanding post-doctoral or junior faculty candidates who are investigating the causes, prevention, and treatment of children and adolescents with ADHD or depression, especially those from low-income families and under-resourced communities, or other minoritized populations that may have limited supports and resources. The Fellowship supports two-year research projects that could lead to federal funding and other national research awards. The Foundation supports research that produces direct and tangible benefits to children and their families, while also supporting promising, early career scientists.

The Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation is unique in putting youth mental health at the center of its work, with special attention to minoritized populations. Its “Transformation” program has immediate impacts through developing innovative ways youth and their families can get the help they need. It also invests in the future, providing fellowships to researchers early in their career who will go on to develop large scientific programs answering some of the most difficult questions about children’s mental health.

About THe Scientific Meeting

The Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation holds a biennial scientific meeting which allows fellows and grantees an opportunity to network with peers and learn from, and exchange ideas with, leaders in the field of child and adolescent mental health. The meeting brings together current fellows and grantees, who are required to attend during the term of their award, as well as select past awardees. It takes place in New York City and includes slide and poster presentations, with time for questions and interaction with the program’s advisors and the foundations’ trustees.

Project Title: Neural Predictors of Response to Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) for Adolescent Depression

This study used electroencephalogram (EEG) to measure individual differences in reward responsiveness and emotion regulation abilities that prospectively predict depressive symptom change and clinician-rated improvement for adolescents with depression participating in an established group CBT program.
