Patricia D. Klingenstein Grants Program

About

Named in honor of Patricia Klingenstein, who championed the program, the Sadie & Harry Davis Foundation awards grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 to organizations that focus on the health needs of Maine’s children, especially those from low-income families and under-resourced communities, or other marginalized populations that may have limited supports and resources. This includes families that come from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and families that live in poverty.

We want to help the children of Maine, particularly those most in need. This program is a way we can do that.

My Place Teen Center

In a typical year, the My Place Teen Center serves as a no-barrier drop-in program for kids and teens in the Westbrook and Biddeford areas, providing a safe place to foster positive youth development through a variety of programs and services. The Center’s programs focus on character development, academic support, civic engagement, and life skills, and the Center’s nutritious daily meals eliminate a key barrier to success that so many youths face – hunger and food insecurity. During the COVID pandemic, My Place Teen Center temporarily pivoted from in-person programs to distribute 500 family-sized meals and 150 snack kits each week. In 2020, a Children’s Health Small Grant from the Sadie and Harry Davis Foundation supported this effort to combat food insecurity heightened during the pandemic, and in 2021 (during a period when the waiting period was lifted), the Center received another grant to support a return to regular in-person programmatic operations.
